A patio is the one slab your family actually sits on, so it has to drain correctly, stay level and still look right ten winters from now.

We pour patios as a single monolithic slab wherever possible, pitched away from the house, with the finish and border you choose.

Concrete walkways and sidewalks

We also install and replace concrete walkways and sidewalks: the front walk from the driveway to the porch, side-yard paths to the backyard patio, and sidewalks along the street. Each one is formed to an even width, pitched so water runs off, and jointed so cracks stay where they belong.

Poured concrete versus pavers

Pavers look good the day they are installed, but every joint is a place for sand to wash out, weeds to grow and frost to shift an individual unit. A properly based concrete slab moves as one piece.

Concrete is also less expensive per square foot to maintain over twenty years, and it can be stamped to replicate the look of stone or brick without the joints.

What affects the cost of a concrete patio

Every patio is quoted in writing after we measure on site. The main factors that move the price are:

  • Size and shape of the slab, including curves and step-downs
  • Finish: broom, stamped, exposed aggregate or integral color
  • Tear-out and haul-away of an existing patio or walk
  • Grade, access and drainage work needed before the pour
  • Borders, steps, walkway connections and added thickness for heavy loads

Sizing and layout

A dining set needs about 12x14 feet to be usable with chairs pulled out. Seating areas with a fire feature need 16x16 or more. We lay out the slab with your furniture, grill and door swings in mind before a form goes in the ground.

  • Step-downs and landings tied to existing doors
  • Stamped or exposed aggregate borders against a broom field
  • Footings and sleeves pre-set for future pergolas and gas lines
  • Sidewalk and walkway connections to driveways and side entries

Common questions

Do you install concrete walkways and sidewalks?

Yes. We install and replace front walkways, side-yard paths and sidewalks, often in the same visit as a patio or driveway.

Will a concrete patio crack?

Every concrete slab moves. We place control joints so the slab relieves stress at a straight cut line rather than a random crack across the middle.

Can you pour a patio over my old one?

Rarely. An overlay inherits every crack and drainage mistake below it. In almost all cases we remove the old slab and rebuild the base.
