Concrete cost & buyer's guide

What a Concrete Driveway or Patio Costs in Oakland & Livingston County

The eight things that move the price, and how to compare contractor bids before you sign.

What drives the price of concrete

  1. Size and shape. Square footage sets the base price. Curves, flares and extra corners add forming time.
  2. Tear-out and haul-away. Replacing an old driveway means breaking out and hauling off the old slab before any new work begins.
  3. Base rebuild. We rebuild with compacted 21AA crushed concrete. The more base that needs replacing, the more material and labor.
  4. Concrete spec. Our standard is 4,500 PSI air-entrained concrete, 4.5 inches thick, with wire-mesh reinforcement. A stronger, thicker slab costs more to place than a thin one, and lasts longer.
  5. Finish. Broom finish is the most economical. Stamped concrete and exposed aggregate add labor and material.
  6. Grade and drainage. Sloping the slab so water runs away from the house may take extra grading on some lots.
  7. Access. Tight backyards and long carries need compact equipment or a concrete buggy, which adds time.
  8. Permits. Some cities require a permit for driveway approaches or work in the right-of-way. We'll tell you if your job needs one.

Why we don't post a price per square foot

Two driveways the same size can need very different work underneath. A flat number online skips the tear-out, base and drainage that decide how long the slab lasts. We give you a free written estimate that shows every part of the job.

Common questions

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Oakland County?

Every driveway is priced on its own size, tear-out, base work, finish and access. The fastest way to a real number is a free written estimate. We measure on site and itemize the scope so you can compare bids line by line.

Why is a 4,500 PSI, 4.5-inch driveway worth paying for?

Michigan freeze-thaw cycles and road salt are hard on concrete. A stronger, thicker, reinforced slab over a compacted base is built to hold up to that, which is why it is our standard.

How long does a driveway replacement take?

Most Marcucci driveway replacements take about 2 days of work, weather permitting. Then the new concrete needs time to cure before you drive on it.

How do I compare two concrete bids?

Check that each bid lists the PSI, slab thickness, reinforcement, base material, tear-out, cleanup, license number and warranty in writing. A cheaper bid often leaves one of these out.

Is a stamped or exposed aggregate driveway more expensive?

Yes. Decorative finishes take more labor and material than a broom finish. Many homeowners use them for a border or front walk to get the look for less.
